Amendments to the Terrorism Bill
Thanks
to all of you who wrote to David Sanders asking to make a submission on the
Amendments to the Terrorism (Financing and Bombing) Bill and demanding that the
amendments be released to the public.
Partly
because of your emails, the Select Committee has been forced to agree that the
amendments should become public and that there is time for people to make
submissions. The Select Committee has
given people until the 30th November to make submissions and will report back
to the House in March 2002.
We
have also won another partial victory with the very worst aspects of the
proposed amendments being removed.
There
is no time to rest on our laurels though, as the amendments are still
unacceptable.
Arena
people are in the process of producing analysis of the amendments to help
people write submissions, and we will send these to you as soon as possible. You can download a copy of the Select
Committee report and the Amendments from http://www.clerk.parliament.govt.nz/content/91/fd121int.pdf
You
can also get a copy of the submission process.
In
the next few days we will also send out another Action Alert with suggested
activities you can plan and participate in to show your opposition to the Bill.
